Are Canada’s Child and Family Services Agencies Providing Adequate Care?

Some of Canada’s missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls have been at one time in their lives, at several points in their lives, or even at the time leading up to their disappearance or murder, in the care of the Child and Family Services system. In Manitoba, the failures in the system have been blamed in part for the tragic demise of children in care, such as Tina Fontaine. An overhaul of the system has been called for. Many are hopeful that in Manitoba, and in Canada, the needs of children in care will be met with a system that is redesigned to provide adequate care.
